Anita Avakian

I am a Georgian-Armenian songwriter, performer, singer and music director. I graduated from the music university as a jazz singer, but in my solo career I practice soul and blues singing. (I was influenced by Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston). I write music with socio-political themes and am known for my strong live shows due to the powerful energy and my voice.

I was born in Ukraine and lived for 2 years in an art residence in Paris. During this time, I worked on my mental health (repaired the damage from the war), studied screenwriting for my current project, wrote new material and in 2024 independently produced a solo concert in Paris, which was included in the Top 3 best concerts in the history of this concert venue.

My residency in Paris ends on August 26, so I’m looking for an opportunity to continue working on the album in a new place.

Propositions artistiques en échange de la résidence (oeuvres, cours, ateliers, dîner, concert...) : With a professional education as a singer and 9 years of concert practice on stage, I can provide lessons in vocals, stage movement, jazz history or a master class in music writing. I can also create one or a series of performances dedicated to the best songs of jazz, soul or blues.
Description environment are you looking for ( nature, urban, other…) : The main thing for me is the opportunity to work on my album, so it is very important for me to be able to sing. This is the only requirement that is really important to me.
Describe your projects for a residence : Having overcome a difficult moment in my life, I am creating a debut album in which I raise the topic of suicide and the struggle with our inner world in an inspiring and comedic way. The goal of the album is to remove the taboo on such topics and start a conversation. The album will have elements of soul, rock n roll, blues and disco. Inspired by the music of the 80s and 70s.

    Nous sommes le groupe Uirapuru, un quatuor né d’une soirée inattendue au Club de Poètes à Paris, où nous nous sommes produits pour la première fois en 2021. Uirapuru [oui-ra-pou-rou] : oiseau aux vertus magiques des forêts brésiliennes qui entonne son chant mystérieux pour nous transporter ailleurs ou, dans notre cas, pour vous transporter au Brésil et ses multiples paysages, visages, rythmes et moments historiques.Notre premier concert réunissait musique, poésie et théâtre : croisement d’expressions artistiques qui sont devenues notre essence. Ce n'est pas un hasard : chacun de nous apporte avec lui un parcours différent en musique, théâtre et écriture et c'est justement la fusion de ces expériences qui définit notre langage sur scène. Mais ces rencontres - d’artistes et d’expressions - ne seraient pas possibles sans un point d’intersection : l’envie de chanter à voix haute la musique brésilienne et les histoires qu’elle nous fait découvrir.
